What Balayage Actually Is

Balayage is colour painted onto the hair freehand, rather than saturated from root to tip or woven into foils. The lightness is concentrated around the face and through the mid-lengths and ends, so regrowth can appear softer than an all-over colour.

During the consultation, placement and the achievable level of lift are planned around your starting colour, hair condition and maintenance goals.

Balayage

Painted freehand. Soft, dimensional, low maintenance. Best for a natural, lived-in result that grows out gracefully.

Foils

Woven and wrapped for maximum lift and precision. Best for all-over brightness, strong contrast or going noticeably blonder.

Full Colour

One shade, root to tip. Best for covering, going darker, or a clean single-tone result. Needs regrowth maintenance every 4–6 weeks.

Living With Balayage

Expect a toner refresh every six to ten weeks to keep the tone clean — brassiness is what makes balayage look tired, not regrowth. A purple or blue shampoo once a week at home holds the tone between visits.

Most clients repaint two or three times a year. That's the whole point: colour that works around your life, not a standing appointment you resent.

Balayage Questions

How long does balayage take?

Around two hours including toner. Very long or very thick hair can take longer — mention it when you book so your slot is right.

Will I be blonde in one visit?

You'll be noticeably lighter and brighter in one visit. Going from dark hair to very light blonde balayage safely can take more than one session — I'll tell you honestly at the consultation.

How often do I need to redo it?

The paint itself, every three to four months for most people. A quick toner every six to ten weeks keeps the tone fresh in between.

Does balayage damage your hair?

Any lightening stresses hair, but balayage is gentler than a global bleach because it doesn't touch every strand or sit on the scalp. I work to your hair's condition, not against it.
